Payback is a bitch

Note to anyone thinking of financing a right-wing hit job on a Democratic Presidential candidate: that could come back to haunt you at some point. Take Mr. Sam Fox. Mr. Fox gave $50,000 to the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth. Now he's President Bush's nominee to be Ambassador to Belgium. Unfortunately for Mr. Fox, he has to be confirmed by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Why is that unfortunate? Because Senator John Kerry, the man the Swift Boat Veterans went after, sits on the Committee:

The Senate Foreign Relations Committee still has not scheduled a vote on Fox's nomination. A senior Democratic aide on the committee tells the Sleuth that the nomination is in real trouble and suggested Democrats may sink it both to show support for Kerry and teach a moral lesson about the personal destruction wrought by of independent 527 groups such as Swift Boat Veterans for Truth.

"I can tell you people are going to be very sensitive to Senator Kerry," the aide said, adding that killing Fox's ambassadorial nomination may be the strong lesson that's needed in order to get "this level of shame" out of politics. "This is not a bad remedy," the aide said.

Well bravo. Kick this guy to the curb. You give $50,000 to a guy who funds trash like the Swift Boat group and you should have to pay the consequences. While this obviously doesn't undo the damage done in '04 (I think Republicans will take Senator Kerry not being President over Mr. Fox getting his ambassadorship any day of the week) its a nice little piece of revenge for Senator Kerry.
