I think that door is supposed to shut

Odd/annoying little situation on my way to work this morning. As you can see from the above photo I snapped with my iPhone the door on the Metro car I was in refused to close entirely. It kept trying to close but only half of the door worked. The conductor kept making the “please stand clear of the doors” announcement (getting more frustrated each time) while we the passengers just kind of looked around dumbly. After about 15 attempts at closing it just worked and we were on our way.

Until we got to the next stop when again the door wouldn’t close all the way. This time the conductor had caught on that there might be an issue so he came down to check on our door. I had been wondering what they would do if they couldn’t get the door to shut properly. If we all promised to stand far back from the open half would they let us go? And promised not to sue if one of us fell out? Surely they wouldn’t inconvenience the whole train by kicking everyone out over one lousy half-door.

You can probably guess what happened next. Everyone got kicked out. The conductor announced that the train was now “out of service” and peaced out. As the train left though there was still a couple people on board, people who I guess weren’t in the mood to be inconvenienced and decided since the doors on their cars were working fine they weren’t getting off. I hope those people weren’t allowed off at their stops and had to go all the way to the end of the line.
