Keen insight from Michelle Malkin

Michelle Malkin, you are a delight. You’ll recall that earlier, Paul Mirengoff of Powerline took Convention analysis to new heights with his genius evaluation of Senators Obama and McCain post-speech behavior. Malkin, not to be outdone, see’s Mirengoff’s analysis and raises: she see’s an important difference between the Senators based on…..how they laid their roses at a memorial at Ground Zero. Here’s Malkin:

It’s a small gesture, but gestures matter at the hallowed grave site of so many murdered innocent Americans.

Barack Obama flings a memorial rose at Ground Zero like he’s a kid tossing pennies into a fountain at the shopping mall — or a spectator tossing flowers at a bullfight.

He doesn’t know what he’s doing.

(Clueless NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg copies him.)

By contrast, John McCain and his wife kneel and gently, somberly, place their roses down at the foot of the 9/11 tribute.

Tons of you e-mailed me about this. Here’s the vid for the rest of you who didn’t see it. It’s a telling cultural and generational distinction between these two men vying to be commander-in-chief of our nation

She then goes on to provide, I kid you not, two, count’em, two different videos of this. Am I crazy or is this most definitely not “a telling cultural and generational distinction between these two men”? Not to mention, what does Malkin even mean by “cultural” in that sentence? I get generational because McCain’s really old.

Heaven forbid you should think I’m being unfair to Ms. Malkin so here’s the dramatic video evidence, provided by Malkin herself. Judge for yourself.

Might as well stop the campaign now.

My favorite bit of Convention analysis

Out of the thousands upon thousands of words written analyzing the Democratic and Republican Conventions this observation, by Powerline’s own Paul Mirengoff, has to be my favorite:

I don’t know whether anyone whose vote is up-for-grabs continues to watch a convention after the presidential nominee finishes his speech. However, the ensuing celebrations at the two just-completed conventions were revealing.

At the Democratic convention, Obama and Biden remained on the stage with their families, basking in the glow of mass adulation. After several minutes of this, the two candidates and their wives came forward for what I called “one more bow. . .before they ascend to the heavens.”

Last night, McCain looked rather uncomfortable on stage during the celebration. Before long, he descended into the crowd to shake hands. Only then did he look at ease.

The contrast could not have been clearer, and I think it tells us a good deal about the two presidential candidates.

Brilliant insight Paul, brilliant. I’m a little confused as to how standing on stage while people are applauding you is different then going into a crowd so people can shake your hand and pat you on the back but whatever you say Paul. I guess Senator McCain really is a man of the people, he’s so eager to get hands on with the riff-raff who attend Republican Conventions. Paul’s right though, if your vote was up-for-grabs before the conventions then you should absolutely pick your candidate based on how they may or may not have acted and looked after their speeches. Knowing particular policies is really hard, makes sense to me.

Who would hire these people?

Mark Penn and Karen Hughes are joining forces “to create a bipartisan consulting organization to advise corporations in crisis”. For realz? For realz. Who in their right mind would hire Mark F’ing Penn and Karen “Yeah that Karen Hughes” Hughes? Mark Penn is fresh off being ridiculed by basically the whole world for his work on Senator Clinton’s campaign and Hughes was most recently the “Undersecretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs” in which she was charged with improving the US’s reputation in the Muslim world, in which she helped accomplish the exact opposite. The title of Alex Pareene’s post says it all “Two Big Losers Will Repair Your Image!“.

Almost too good to be true: The House Republicans came up with a new “theme” for their policy agenda: The Change You Deserve. Only problem is, that’s also the slogan of an anti-depressant drug.

Good timing Jim Cramer

Everyone’s talking about Bear Stearns today. Here’s what Jim Cramer had to say about them last week:

Brilliant analysis sir.

Kristol uses NY Times to pass on a lie

Wow, that Bill Kristol hiring is really working out for the NY Times. Marc Ambinder points out that Kristol makes a rather significant factual area in Kristol’s column today regarding Senator Obama and his attendance at a church service during which Rev. Wright made some controversial remarks. Kristol, apparently getting his material from Newsmax of all places, says Obama was in the church that day. This, of course, is not true as Ambinder explains.

As of 11 am Eastern the Times had yet to make a correction on the online version of Kristol’s piece. It’s super awesome that the Times has decided, through Kristol, to bring the kind of trash usually found on Powerline or Malkin’s site to a wider audience.

Oh Jonah Goldberg, what will you do next? Whats that you say? Publish a prank email, designed to show how dumb you and your readers are? Hilarious. (via Atrios)

Dumber then dumb: the world is NOT flat

Far be it for me to call someone else dumb….but Sherri Shepard is dumb. If you didn’t know (and I’m not entirely sure why I know myself) Shepard is one of the new co-hosts of The View. Now I have no opinion on The View other then I would rather gouge my eyes out then watch it, so I can’t say for sure that this video is indicative of what the show usually is. Having said that: yes Sherri Shepard, the world really isn’t flat. And yes, you moron, pretty much everyone with a hint of education (and even those with none at all) should know that. Watch and enjoy (or really watch and cringe):
