A pathetic 2%

Via Jason, the NY Times gets into the end of the year spirit by putting out their list of the “100 Notable Books of 2007″. Despite the fact that I consider myself an avid reader, I have embaressingly only read 2 books on the list:
HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS. By J.?K. Rowling
THE YIDDISH POLICEMEN’S [...]

That’s a lot of sheep throwing

This NY Times article on a young guy who got rich in the first tech boom (he co-founded PayPal) and is now trying to get rich in the second (current) boom was not particularly interesting as a whole but I found this tidbit, concerning the gentleman in question’s company Slide.com, fascinating:
Facebook users, for instance, use [...]

On Tila Tequila

From here:
The easiest thing to say about Ms. Tequila is that she lacks talent. In a review of “A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila”— whose flimsy premise offers 16 straight men and 16 lesbians the usual chance to swill alcohol, hang around in board shorts and bikinis (and, let’s not forget, heels) and compete [...]

Colbert in the NY Times Op-Ed page

As I make it a point to not read Maureen Dowd under any circumstances I was unaware that on Sunday she let Stephen Colbert guest appear in her column until my friend Ori pointed it out. Here’s the first paragraph:
Surprised to see my byline here, aren’t you? I would be too, if I read The [...]

Thank you for clarifying

Correction in today’s NY Times:
An earlier version of this article misstated the location of a 2005 sexual encounter between Stephon Marbury of the Knicks and a team intern. Mr. Marbury testified that it took place in his truck, not in the trunk of his car.

Paul Krugman: blogger

Following up on yesterday’s post about the end of TimesSelect, Paul Krugman is entering the blogosphere. Not sure how this will turn out but I like the idea. I can tell you from the outset that I hate the partial content RSS feed. The Times needs to give that the boot as well.

Paul Krugman: free at last

Its about time the NY Times ended their stupid TimesSelect online subscription program. I follow a very simple rule of thumb when it comes to the internets: if it isn’t free, I don’t want it. There is pretty much nothing online that is so unique and powerful/insightful/useful that I am willing to shill out some [...]

Awful writing

Seth Mnookin has a bit of a thing about Murray Chass, the NY Times sports columnist. Usually when Seth, who I enjoy tremendously, writes about Chass on his blog (The Feeding the Monster Blog, a great read for baseball fans generally and Red Sox fans specifically) I skip over it as I only need to [...]

Too much information

While glancing over this NY Times article dealing with how the porn industry is handling HDTV I noticed this lovely quote:
“The biggest problem is razor burn,” said Stormy Daniels, an actress, writer and director.

Now isn't that lovely. Clearly Miss Daniels, a busy woman considering her variety of job titles, has a good handle on [...]
