New poll has Al Franken up 1 in Minnesota. Keep hope alive! via

Jesse Ventura is not running for Senate this year in Minnesota. Too bad, adding Ventura to Al Franken vs. Norm Coleman would have made it the race of the century.

Sen. Smith knows which way the wind is blowing

Thats Senator Gordan Smith of Oregon’s latest campaign ad. Whats remarkable is that Senator Smith…is a Republican. And yet he’s trying to claw his way on to Senator Obama’s coattails. No mention of Senator McCain anywhere. Here’s what Senator Obama’s campaign had to say:

“Barack Obama has a long record of bipartisan accomplishment and we appreciate that it is respected by his Democratic and Republican colleagues in the Senate. But in this race, Oregonians should know that Barack Obama supports Jeff Merkley for Senate. Merkley will help Obama bring about the fundamental change we need in Washington,” said Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton.

Jeff Merkley of course being the Democrat in the race. Here’s hoping the good people of Oregon elect Merkley over the pathetic Smith.

Colorado Republican candidate for Senator shows a picture of Pikes Peak in a tv spot. Except its not Pikes Peak, its Mt. McKinley in Alaska. Uproar ensues.

With Mike Ciresi, his primary oppponent, dropping out it seems all but certain that Al Franken will win the Democratic nomination and square off against incumbent U.S. Senator Norm Coleman in Minnesota. Aside from the Presidential race this has to be the most interesting contest of 2008.

This should be interesting

Al Franken is going to try and replace that empty shirt Norm Coleman as the next Senator of Minnesota. A comedian in the Senate would certainly liven things up a bit. Imagine him on Meet the Press or Face the Nation? Tim Russert wouldn't stand a chance. Not only is he funny and smart, he's a true liberal and he's going against one of the more pathetic Republican's out there in Norm Coleman. Should be an interesting campaign, to say the least. Here's wishing Al the best. Check out his pretty snazzy website

Prediction time

Word is tomorrow's kind of a big day. As such, I'll step up to the plate and make some predictions, though I should point out that my track record is quite poor. People who remember my first website attempt (RIP The Observer) will recall that on the eve of November 2nd, 2004, I was quite optimistic (President Kerry! Democratic Senate!) and ended up looking, shall we say, quite foolish.

This time I'm going to be a little more cautious. I'm going to go with a 25 seat pickup in the House, though I've seen respected pundits raising the possiblity of a wave that could go as high as 40 seats, which would be nice. For the Senate I'm cautious about getting my hopes up to high but Democrats win RI, PA and OH, obviously. I'm going to say Burns is out in MT and Webb eeks one out over Allen in VA (thank God). For MO it's a coin flip, one I don't really have the guts to call either way but fuck it, I say we win that one too. So thats 25 in the House and a full 6 in the Senate (though, to hedge my bets, 4 in the Senate wouldn't suprise me. Oh and if Rep. Cardin loses to Steele in my homestate of MD I don't know what I'll do. And yeah, Lieberman's going to beat Lamont, which sucks.
