Only Gilbert Arenas is cool enough to pull off a non-weird mugshot (from last summer's arrest in Miami). I'd give anything to get my high school mugshot.

Been a while since I posted my full ballot for Dan Steinberg's local college poll so i might as well do it now, especially with the newest poll out. My ballot looked like this:
1. VA Tech
2. G-Town
3. Virginia Commonwealth
4. GW
5. Maryland
6. VA
7. Old Dominon
8. George Mason
9. Loyola
10. William and Mary.
To be perfectly frank its been a some what lackluster season so far, with G-Town being slightly disappointing and Maryland only 1-4 in the ACC after their blistering non-conference start.
I've been remiss in posting about new Local 11 college basketball polls mostly because I've been forgetting to vote and if I'm not voting then the poll must not be any good. Anyway the new polls out, with a new number 1 team (Va Tech). MD losing to VA last night surely will have an impact on next week's rankings. Dan's still searching for an official name for the poll, so any suggestions are welcome.
My boy Dan at the Sports Bog lists his Top 11 Local (D.C.) Moments of the Year. How G-town beating #1 Duke is not included is beyond me.
So I'm reading an interesting piece from the City Paper (found via the Sports Bog) on one of the guy's behind Wizznutzz (one of the best sports blogs in general and certainly the best Wizards blog specifically) about how they came up with Gilbert Arenas' "Agent Zero" nickname. Dave McKenna, the City Paper writer, is giving some background on other Wizard nicknames created by the Wizznutzz when writes this about Juan Dixon, Terps legend and somewhat decent former role player for the Wizards:
After finding out that former guard Juan Dixon, for example, carried his own toilet paper with him on the road, to the Wizznutzz faithful he became “Jaggers,” after a Dickens character who obsessively washes his hands. And owner Abe Pollin was “Mr. Drummond.”
Italics mine. Uh, anyone care to expand on that little tidbit? Juan Dixon carries his own toilet paper with him when he goes on the road? Why, exactly, would one do that? The Wizards, being an NBA team, stay at the finest hotels when they travel, presumably these hotels have quality toilet paper. Is there a particular brand that Juan likes/needs that can only be found in the D.C. metropolitan area? And what about the fact that Juan now plays for the Blazers? Does he ship toilet paper from here out to Portland for his house, not to mention road trips? Or is he alright with Portland toilet paper options? I feel like these are important questions that need to be answered
It's Monday so that means it's time for the second edition of Dan Steinberg's Local 11 basketball poll, of which I am a voter. First, we'll go to my ballot (parenthesis are last week's rankings):
1. UVA (2)
2. MD (1)
3. G-town (4)
4. GW (3)
5. AU (8)
6. Navy (7)
7. VA Commonwealth (6)
8. Old Dominion (5)
9. Liberty (9)
10. VA Tech (NR)
Dropping out: George Mason (10)
The actual poll is again, like last week, fairly similar to my own ballot. There seems to be more movement amongst the smaller schools, probably because most of the voters have no real clue how good they are and are just basing their votes off records. Anyway, here's the link to the poll, if you like local basketball check it out.
Dan Steinberg, writer of WashingtonPost.com's fantastic Sports Bog , has started a new local college basketball top 11 poll. I'm lucky enough to be one of the voters. Today was the polls big debut. Here are the eligible teams:

Patriot League: American, Navy
My ballot that I submitted this morning went as follows:
1. Maryland
2. Virginia
3. GW
4.Georgetown
5. Old Dominion
6. Virginia Commonwealth
7. Navy
8.American
9. Liberty
10. George Mason
You can see the inaugural poll by clicking here. My ballot was fairly representative of the overall views. The general consensus seemed to be there aren't really enough good teams to make a real top 11 at this point. Anyway the poll will be posted every Monday on the Sports Bog so check it out, should be fun. Also, if you are a sports fan in general, and a Washington sports fan specifically, then you really should be reading the Sports Bog everyday. It is, in a word, fantastic.
